First and Second Class School Tour, 8th June 2011

As part of our school tour we visited the Reptile Zoo, Gowran, County Kilkenny. We had a fantastic time looking at the different species on display. We learned lots of fun facts about the different types of reptiles such as alligators, rattlesnakes, geckos and pythons. We even had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the reptiles in the walk through the tropical enclosure. Some of the boys in our class were even brave enough to hold the deadly boa constrictor snake at the demonstration afterwards. Following this we headed to the park in Kilkenny where we saw the magnificent Kilkenny Castle. Before heading home we had fun playing in the playground. Overall it was a great day out.
Mr. Power’s v Mr. Whelan’s - 5th v 4th
Mr. Power’s class vs Mr. Whelan’s class - they are both competitive classes… who shall win? Mr. Whelan and Mr. Power are two great teachers who have put together a sports league for 5 weeks. We are playing 5 sports including basketball, soccer, rounders, hurling and Gaelic football.
We are 1 week through it- basketball. 5th class are currently in the lead. I just can’t wait until the final. It is intense! I think it is great fun and you will get good exercise out of it. And it teaches good sportsmanship and to be fair if you win or lose. Next week we are playing soccer. I have good confidence but then again they are a good team it is going to be a brilliant sports league.

First Class Activities - The Bubble Show-Science Week, November 2010

We celebrated Science Week by taking part in the South East Science Festival. We attended the ‘Bubble Show’ at the Waterford Institute of Technology. This was a very exciting day as we learned about the fun and science of bubbles. We saw bubbles of all different sizes being produced. We also learned how certain materials change the way other bubbles behave. We even saw a human step into a giant bubble!
Coastguard
On Tuesday the16th of May the coastguard came to visit our school. We were so excited. The boys of Junior Infants were especially excited because Evan’s dad Seamus, who is part of the coastguard, was coming in too.
We all went outside in our class groups and the men explained to us how the coastguard service works, how important it is to wear a lifejacket when you are on a boat and how they rescue people who are in trouble. Then they showed us how to rescue someone who is stuck on a cliff. It was so cool!
The following Tuesday, it got even cooler! At twenty past nine, all the infant classes were told to go up to the GAA pitch. When we got there we were amazed to hear a very loud noise. We stopped. We looked up. We couldn’t believe our eyes! A helicopter was coming in to land!!
It was the men from the coastguard. We loved looking at the helicopter, finding out about the winch and other equipment, and listening to the stories of how people are rescued.
It was the best day ever!

Farewell to 6th class!
We had a lovely farewell ceremony for our outgoing sixth class. We will miss them and wish them all the best as they start the next stage of their education!
Thank you to the Parents' Association
"A big thank you to our Parents' Association" from all the boys and staff for their support to us over the last year. We have been able to get a number of projects off the ground as a result of their contribution. With the proceeds of their fundraising projects, we now have a brand new stage; guitars, keyboards and recorders for our music lessons. They also funded the design of this website which was designed by a past pupil of ours, William Hayes.
School Closure
Please note that the school will be closed on Thursday, 27 October, 2011 to accomodate the presidential election.
