St. Paul's Boys National School

Uniform Policy

This policy has been drawn up through a collaborative process involving Parents, the Parents’ Association, School Staff and Board of Management.

Rationale

It is important that our children learn to present themselves appropriately. A neat and tidy school uniform helps children to understand the importance of presentation and helps them develop their self-esteem and self-confidence.

The highest standard of personal appearance is expected at all times as it represents the standards set by our school for our children. Accordingly, parents must ensure that pupils comply with these standards in matters of general appearance, dress, hairstyles and jewellery at all times during the school term.

The Uniform

The agreed school uniform from 1st to 6th class is as follows:

  • A grey shirt
  • School tie (which can be purchased from the school shop for €2.50)
  • Navy jumper with school crest
  • Grey trousers
  • Black shoes

The Tracksuit

The agreed P.E. uniform is as follows:

  • A navy tracksuit with light blue piping, with the school crest.
  • A light blue polo shirt
  • The jumper and tracksuit are available from three local suppliers – Excel, Heroes( jumper only) and K-Sport. The rest of the uniform is widely available.

General Points

  • The school uniform is worn on all school days and tracksuits on P.E. days, unless parents are notified in advance of a change. It is understandable that from time to time a child may come to school without the correct uniform due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case the child should bring a written note to school explaining the reason for not having the correct uniform/tracksuit.
  • Any child who comes to school without the correct uniform and without a note from parents twice in one week will be given a misdemeanour slip – see School Code of Behaviour
  • Children who observe this uniform policy during the school year will be rewarded with a treat at the end of the school year.
  • There are over 240 children in the school wearing the school uniform. In order that your child does not lose his/her jumper/track suit/jacket please ensure that all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
  • Jewellery is not permitted. Watches are allowed.

Thank you to the Parents' Association

"A big thank you to our Parents' Association" from all the boys and staff for their support to us over the last year. We have been able to get a number of projects off the ground as a result of their contribution. With the proceeds of their fundraising projects, we now have a brand new stage; guitars, keyboards and recorders for our music lessons. They also funded the design of this website which was designed by a past pupil of ours, William Hayes.
